Colorado Disabled Veteran and Military License Plates

 

Items for License Plates

To obtain the Disabled Veteran license plate, the veteran will need:

  1. DD-214 indicating that the veteran received an Honorable Discharge from a branch of the Armed Services of the United States.
  2. Qualification letter from the Veteran's Administration, Department of Veteran's Affairs or from the branch of service (on official military stationary) from which the veteran is receiving compensation. You may call (800) 698-2411 and request a disability rating letter. Instructions on how to obtain the qualification letter(PDF, 200KB).

The qualification letter must state the following:

  • 50% or more service-connected permanent disability. Or; 
  • Loss of use of one or both feet. Or; 
  • Loss of use of one or both hands. Or;
  • Loss of sight in both eyes.

  1. Veteran must provide proof of motor vehicle ownership with title/registration documentation.
  2. Proof of current emissions test (if required).

We can only provide the DD-214 if you have been to our office and we have it on file, or we have a "power of attorney" on file from a state office.
