Weld Faith Partnership Council Minutes

Council Members Present: Margie Martinez, Lyn Tausan, Commissioner Lori Saine, Nate Taverner, Rob Thomas, Pam Sommer, Steve Osborn, Tim Martinez, John Rotharmel, Stacey Casteel, Roxy Tines, David Shumpert

Council Members Absent: Jeff Sloan

Call to Order: Rob Thomas at 7:37 a.m. 

Opening Prayer: David Shumpert

Introduction of New Council Members

Approval of November Minutes: Motion made by Stacey C. to approve the minutes as presented, Nate T. 2nd; motion carried.

Commissioner Update: Lori Saine

  • Council goes deep instead of wide and focuses on the children in Weld County
  • Average family stops at 18 months of fostering – because they need full time care at that point
  • Help them make it one more day by wrapping around them by being the hands and feet of Christ
  • Wrap programs with churches; provide dinners, mow lawns, laundry, respite nights, parent’s night out, etc. So many ways to come around the family to help them stay in it and not make them feel like they are alone. 
  • Success of the program has been noted across the state – Boulder County reached out to Life Bridge Church for help
  • How do we help them get past the 18 months?
  • Government is asking for our help and it’s a unique opportunity and space for us to come out of our four walls and step in for the kids in our community
  • Groundwork was laid last year – breakfast kick off, information to churches and goal of 10 churches to partner with us has been met
  • This is the year of action; How many wrap around teams can we get started this year?

DHS Update:

  • Learn about foster care 2/7/2024 (virtual) and 2/21/2024 (in person)
  • Two Respite Events on Feb 24th
  • Northern Colorado Youth for Christ
  • Carbon Valley Lutheran
  • 1 family in each church would eliminate our foster crisis in Weld County

Nominations and Voting for Board

  • No nominations from the floor
  • Motion from Stacey Casteel for continuation of the current board as it stands, 2nd from Amber Cecil; motion carried.

New Subcomittee Opportunity:

  • Annual award nominees/recipient
  • Possibly headed by Margie M.
  • Add to February agenda for further discussion

Award Presentation: Presentation of the Rick Hartman Legends of Hartman Award - Recipient; Kathy Hartman
