The Veterans Service Office helps veterans and their families apply for VA benefits. We can help with things like disability benefits, pensions, burial help, and survivor benefits. This help is free. You should never be asked to pay for this kind of service.

Our team includes people who understand military life and care about helping veterans. We’re here to guide you through the process and make it easier.

We’re proud to serve you.

We can help veterans in Weld County apply for Service Connected Disability Compensation.

Who Can Apply?

You may qualify if you have been diagnosed with one of these:

  • Chronic Conditions: These are long-term health problems that started during service or got worse because of service. This includes both physical and emotional issues.
  • Presumptive Conditions: The VA assumes some health problems were caused by military service if you served in certain places or situations.

What You Need to Apply

To apply, you’ll need to show proof that your condition is connected to your service. Please bring:

  • Your DD214 (discharge papers)
  • A current medical diagnosis
  • Any past medical records for the condition
  • Proof that the condition is linked to your time in service
  • If you are terminally ill – a doctor’s note
  • If you are homeless – a letter from a shelter or coordinator
  • A voided check or direct deposit form for possible VA compensation
  • Any other documents that support your claim

We can help veterans in Weld County apply for a Non-Service Connected Pension (also called Aid and Attendance or Improved Pension).

What Is This Pension?

This pension is for veterans with low income and limited assets. It is not based on injuries or illnesses from military service.

  • The VA looks at your net worth (your income plus what you own).
  • You can count your monthly medical costs to help qualify.
  • This is not guaranteed—you must meet certain rules.
  • Surviving spouses may also qualify.

Who Can Apply:

  • Over the age of 65
  • Meet the income and asset limits set by the VA
  • You served at least one day during a wartime period, including:
  • World War II: Dec 7, 1941 – Jul 25, 1947
  • Korean War: Jun 27, 1950 – Jan 31, 1955
  • Vietnam War:
    • If served in Vietnam: Feb 28, 1961 – May 7, 1975
    • All others: Aug 5, 1964 – May 7, 1975
  • Gulf War: Aug 2, 1990 – Present

We help veterans’ families apply for burial and survivor benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Burial Benefits May Include:

  • Burial Allowance: Money to help with funeral costs
  • U.S. Flag: A flag to honor the veteran’s service
  • Headstone or Marker: Provided by the VA
  • Presidential Memorial Certificate: A certificate signed by the President to honor the veteran
  • Survivor Benefits: Help for family members, including monthly payments, funeral support, and other services after a veteran passes away

Veterans in Colorado may qualify for a free Disabled Veteran license plate if they meet certain requirements. We can help you understand what you need and how to apply.

What You Need to Get the Plate:

  • A DD-214 showing you were honorably discharged
  • A disability letter from the VA or your military branch that says one of the following:
    • You have a 50% or higher service-connected disability, or
