Weld Faith Partnership Council Minutes
January 9, 2025 7:30 a.m.

Council Members in Attendance: John Rotharmel, Nate Taverner, Dave Shumpert, Roy Lantzy, Stacey Casteel, Roxene Tines, Steve Osborn, Lauren Tipton
County Commissioner: Lynette Peppler
DHS: Kristi DeAnda, John Killen
Council Members Absent: Rob Thomas, Amber Cecil, Pamela Sommer, Tim Martinez, Steven Karcher
Meeting Called to order: Dave Shumpert opened the meeting as Vice-Chair in the absence of Chair Rob Thomas at 7:40 a.m.
November Minutes: Moved by Stacy Casteel and seconded by Lauren Tipton to approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried.
Introduction of County Commissioner – Lynette Peppler introduced herself as our assigned Weld County Commissioner.
DHS Update:
- John Killen informed us about what the programs he oversees do for Weld County families.
- Kristy DeAnda reported that the DHS Christmas events went well and were a great kickoff for families to the Christmas season.
- Roxy shared about Safe Families for Children, which now has a chapter in Weld County. Their goal is to work with families to keep children out of foster care.
- Foster Care month is coming up in May. DHS is looking at doing a Latino family recruitment event in early May.
- DHS will be looking for foster families to nominate for an annual state award.
Nominations and Voting for Board
Chair - Dave nominated Nate Taverner, Roxy seconded. Motion carried.
Vice Chair - Lauren nominated Stacy Casteel, Roxy seconded. Motion carried.
Secretary - Nate nominated Amber Cecil, Stacy seconded. Motion carried.
Rick Hartman Legends of Service Award - Award Recipients are:
- Teresa McClatchey – Community Resource Officer, Evans Police Department,
- Major and Cynthia Kintzley – JROTC/Weld County Toys for Tots,
- Commissioner Saine
- Margie Martinez
Those who nominated these individuals will invite the award recipients to our March meeting to receive the award.
New Business: We discussed the possibility of supporting the DHS breakfast event in May rather than hosting our own event. Kristy shared the vision for that event to connect with Latino families and giving them information about getting involved in foster care rather than having specific presentations. We will talk more about what our involvement could look like at our next meeting.
Other Information: Roy shared with us about his organization, the Jireh Project. (see www.Jirehproject.org)
