Introduction of new council members and council members

Commissioner Update: Lori Saine

  • City of Erie in process of becoming Foster Friendly
  • Find business leaders/chamber
  • Erie to make a proclamation to be a Foster Friendly City
  • Highlight the groups of kids that need to be wrapped around – older kids
  • Mentorship type of program – Teaching a trade

A little history on foster friendly for our new members:  Rob Thomas

DHS Update:

  • Milliken – Foster Friendly
  • Recruitment at Love Thy Neighbor
  • Table at Beef & Bean to generate interest
  • Respite event at City Lights – August 7th
  • Work with Tracee to tighten up processes with DHS
  • Idea to have a monthly connection with Kristy and anyone who is wanting to be involved to connect for information and to get on the same page with details and planning

Breakfast Recap:

  • Invite directly to churches interested in Foster Friendly
  • Longer ramp for planning - December/January lead up and possibly a planning committee sub committee
  • More scrambling last minute for the group as a whole – Sub-committee would alleviate the issue
  • Broader invite list – Introduce this group to other churches from within the council
  • Northern Colorado Pastor Round table guest speaker – Reach out for later month this fall (Sept/Oct) - Vicki Sutter – to reach out to John to come
  • Looking to the future for a larger event – Something like “Shine” for the Foster kids in Weld County
  • How can the council be more involved through our own ministries to open doors to community and reach?
  • Annual Christmas Party – a good way for us to be more involved
  • As a council – we should be involved to work with DHS events and lead by example

Sound of Hope Recap:

  • Shows that the church CAN make a difference
  • While practices have changed and it looks different in DHS now, churches still play a pivotal role in the lives of these children and families
  • Really showed the realities of foster/adoption and the support system necessary
