EFNEP in Weld County
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is a federally funded nutrition education program delivered through Weld County Colorado State University Extension. EFNEP helps participants improve food and physical activity behaviors, food resource management, food safety, and food security.
What is EFNEP?
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) provides hands-on, research-based nutrition education. Through a series of 9 lessons, participants learn about healthy eating and being active. Each lesson participants cook and taste a delicious, low-cost recipe. Best of all, EFNEP is free for those who are eligible!
Each lesson lasts 90-120 minutes. Lessons are taught in small groups (3-12 people). Classes are available in English or Spanish.
You’ll learn how to:
- Cook new recipes
- Choose healthy foods
- Saving money at the grocery store
- Keep food safe to eat
- Being more active
EFNEP also offers 3 optional maternal and infant lessons:
- Eating Smart and Being Active During Pregnancy
- How Will I Feed My Baby?
- Feeding Your Baby Solid Foods
With EFNEP lessons, you will receive nutrition information, recipes, and:
- Cutting mat
- Water bottle
- Grocery shopping list
- Produce brush
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Refrigerator Thermometer
- Cook it Safe Magnet
- Let's Cook! Cookbook
- Graduation Certificate
Who can attend?
Parents, expectant parents and young adults (18-29 years old) who are eligible for programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) , WIC or HeadStart are eligible for EFNEP.
