Plague
Plague is a spread mainly through flea bites and direct contact with infected animals. In Weld County, Plague has been found in rodents such as prairie dogs, squirrels, and rabbits.
Prevention?
- Avoid sick and dead rodents.
- Do not feed rodents near your home.
- Do not attempt to catch or play with rodents.
- Keep pets from roaming in suspected plague areas.
- Keep up to date on flea and tick prevention for household pets.
- Clear rodent habitats or debris.
- When hiking, camping, or moving through dense brush - wear high boots, long pants, and shirts, and treat clothing with insect repellent.
