Let’s Talk is a stigma-reduction media campaign that was modified to raise awareness that mental illness and addiction are treatable conditions that can be improved. The campaign message states, “Let’s talk, let’s listen, let’s break the stigma” and is meant to encourage people to be more conscious of sharing their feelings, listening to others, and understanding the high prevalence of mental illness and substance use disorders. In Weld County, 1 in 5 people identify with these conditions and state that stigma is a serious concern in reaching out for support. For resources about talking, listening, or seeking help, please review the resources below available in Weld County.
Original Let's Talk Campaign
The original Let’s Talk campaign was created through Colorado’s Tri-County Health Department to identify mental health issues that help you learn what to say and how to talk about it. So, what can you do? Talk. Listen. Replace awkward silence with questions and understanding. Talk about the stressors and challenges you face and encourage others to talk with you about theirs. Spread the word that people aren’t to blame for mental health issues, and that professional treatment works. Everyone, regardless of gender, race, income, or religion, faces challenges with their mood, emotions, and behaviors from time to time. Some of us, through no fault of our own, face greater challenges than others. It’s important to talk about our mental health with someone we trust, and seek professional care when we need it, just as we would with a physical injury or ailment.
In case of an emergency, call 911.
