Weld Area Agency on Aging - Advisory Board Meeting Minutes

  2. Approval of Minutes:

    • Motion made by Chair Haffner to approve the minutes from June 12, 2025. Vice Chair Kress made first approval and Member Quade made second approval. All approved.
  3. Program:

    • Cycling without Age program and rides
    • Cycling without Age provided a brief overview of the program and provided rides to members.
  4. Committee Reports

    • Nutrition:

      • Staff Member Skoglund – The evening meals in Platteville have concluded with the final attendance being 61. The city of Platteville paid for 30 meals for each summer evening meal provided to help with the cost. Dietician Like held a Fresh Conversations class at Hill N Park which had an attendance of 12 people.
    • ADRC:

      • Staff Member Skoglund – Meeting quarterly, nothing to report on currently.
    • Fraud Updates:

      • Member Cure – There was a recent story about people buying a fake deed only to show up at the house and find the real owner living there.
    • Legislative & CCA:

      • Session is complete. There is a special legislation session on August 21, 2025.
      • Q: Member Quade – Are there any funding concerns with the special session?
        • A: HCSD Director Morrison – None of our programs should be affected at a federal level but could happen at a state level.
    • 50+ Art Show:

      • Chair Haffner – Looking at different ways to promote the event. Ribbons for winners have arrived and are beautiful. Thank you to the many sponsors of the event. The event is on September 24, 2025, from 4pm-6pm at the LINC Library. Weld County residents that are 50 or older can enter up to 2 pieces of art. AIMS Art department will choose the winners.
    • Beyond 60

      • Staff Member Skoglund – Still in need of articles. Would anyone like to write about their experience with Cycling without Age?
    • Monitoring, Oversight, Request for Proposal

      • Staff Member Skoglund – Provider evaluations are completed and compliance free.
  5. Board Participation Reports:

    • Member Broderius – “Acts of Connection” through the Colorado Board of Health is looking for ways of getting communication about the program out to the community to deal with isolation and loneliness among the elderly.
    • Staff Member Skoglund – Staff Member Fagan has included Acts of Connection as a guest speaker at a WeldCo meeting to help with visibility.
  6. General Agency Updates:

    • Staff Member Skoglund – Easters Seals awarded the Caregiver Respite program a $12,000 grant. Working to complete and submit a grant to US Aging.
    • Q: Vice-Chair Kress – Who write the grants?
      • A: HCSD Director Morrison – It is a group effort within the HCSD Division.
    • Q: Member Quade – Are there a lot of grants available?
      • A: HCSD Director Morrison – You must look for them, and they take a lot of time to write.
    • Staff Member Skoglund – Fall prevention week is 9/22/25 to 9/26/25. Flyer has been distributed showing the details of what is happening. It will also be posted on special media by the Weld County Communications Department.
    • Chair Haffner – Aspen Club has a program where you can meet with a pharmacist to go over your medications to see how they interact and if there are any concerns.
