Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

On July 22, 2014, President Obama signed the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act, the first legislative reform of the public workforce system in more than 15 years, which passed Congress by a wide bipartisan majority. WIOA supersedes the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) and amends the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA), the Wagner-Peyser Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. WIOA presents an extraordinary opportunity for the workforce system to accelerate its transformational efforts and demonstrate its ability to improve job and career options for our citizens through an integrated, job-driven public workforce system that links diverse talent to our nation’s businesses. It supports the development of strong, vibrant regional economies where businesses thrive and people want to live and work.
