Welfare fraud is when someone misuses or receives benefits, like food or housing assistance, that they shouldn’t get. These benefits are meant to help people in need, and fraud takes resources away from those who rely on them. Reporting welfare fraud helps keep our system fair and protects support for our community.

Examples of Welfare Fraud Welfare fraud may include:

  • Getting benefits without being eligible
  • Using benefits for things they’re not meant for
  • Giving false or incomplete information, or is intentionally left off of an application to qualify for or increase benefits

How to Report Reporting is private and easy. You can report fraud by calling us or using our Welfare Fraud Report Form. Every report is reviewed by investigators from the Department to help prevent misuse and protect these important services. If there is enough evidence, we take action to recover the funds and may refer the case to the District Attorney for possible prosecution.
