Colorado Works, also known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), is a program that helps families who need extra support. If you qualify, you can get money each month, help with school, job training, and finding work. Colorado Works also helps you set goals and meet people in your community who can support you.

Who Can Apply:

• You are pregnant or taking care of a child under 18 years old.
• You live in Colorado.
• You are a citizen of the United States, a legal alien, a refugee, or a permanent resident.
• Your family income is less than $75,000 a year.

I am a Colorado Works Participant 

This program gives money help to low-income Colorado residents with a disability. It helps people who can’t work because of their disability. Some people get this help while they are waiting to be approved for SSI (a federal disability benefit). Others get extra money if they already get SSI but not the full amount. 

Who Can Apply

• Must live in Colorado
• Must be a U.S. citizen, naturalized citizen, or a legal non-citizen who is allowed to be in the U.S.
• Must be 18 to 59 years old
• Must have a disability expected to last 6 months or more, confirmed by a medical professional
• Must have social barriers that prevent working
• Must use up all other public help, like Colorado Works
• Must be actively applying for SSI
• Must fill out the Interim Assistance form
• All income and resources are looked at
• Money from jobs, Social Security, SSI, Veterans help, etc. may lower the AND-SO payment
• You can only have:
  
  • $2,000 in resources if unmarried
  • $3,000 in resources if married
  • Examples of resources: bank accounts, certificates of deposit, boats, motor homes, stocks and bonds, burial contracts or policies, secondary property, etc.

Gives money help to people who are 60 years old or older and qualify.

Who Can Apply?

• Must be 60 years or older
• Must live in Colorado
• Must try to get any other income or help that’s available
• All income and resources are looked at
• Money from jobs, Social Security, SSI, Veterans help, etc. may lower your OAP payment
• You can only have:
  
  • $2,000 in resources if you’re not married
  • $3,000 in resources if you’re married
  • Examples of resources: bank accounts, certificates of deposit, boats, motor homes, stocks and bonds, burial contracts or policies, secondary property, etc.

This program helps pay for funeral or cremation costs for low-income people in Colorado. It covers the basic and needed costs for these services.

Who Can Apply?

• The person must have been getting public help or medical help when they died.
• Public help includes:
  • Colorado Works (CW)
  • Medicaid
  • Adult Financial (AF) programs like:
    
    • Old Age Pension (OAP)
    • Aid to the Needy Disabled – State Only (AND-SO)
    • AND Colorado Supplement (AND-CS)
• The total cost for burial or cremation must be $2,500 or less.
• The person’s money and help from family are also looked at.
• Payment goes straight to the funeral or cremation provider.

This program gives money to people living in a care home. The money helps pay for personal items like soap, shampoo, or other things the care home doesn’t provide.

Who Can Apply?

• Must live in Colorado
• Must be a U.S. citizen, a naturalized citizen, or a legal resident who is allowed to be in the U.S.
• Must meet the rules for OAP, AND-SO, or AND-CS
• Must live in a facility for 30 days in a row

Helping people stay in their homes. This program gives monthly cash to people with disabilities so they can pay someone to help with daily tasks they can’t do on their own.

Who Can Apply?

• You must have low income and few resources.
• You must also need help with daily activities like dressing or bathing.
• To qualify for money help, you must:
  
  • Be approved for SSI, or
  • Meet all the rules for the AND-SO program, or
  • Have been getting both OAP and HCA since before 12/31/13 and still qualify for both.
• A test is done to see how much help you need with daily tasks.
• You can’t get HCA if you are already getting HCBS.
• Every time you apply for HCA, a Case Management Agency will check if you qualify for HCBS.
• If you qualify for HCBS, you can’t get HCA, even if your income qualifies.
