On Nov. 15, clean out your refrigerator
Now is a great time to give your fridge a fresh start before the busy holiday season. A clean and well-organized refrigerator not only makes meal prep easier but also helps keep your food safe from harmful bacteria and prevents cross-contamination. Here are some tips from the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment to keep your fridge food-safe:
- Keep your refrigerator at 41°F or below and your freezer at 0°F or below to ensure food stays safe.
- Refrigerate food promptly. Harmful bacteria multiply quickly at room temperature so chill those groceries and leftovers as soon as possible and remember to keep container lids off until food is down to 41°F.
- Don’t overfill your fridge. Cold air needs space to circulate to maintain a consistent temperature. A crowded fridge can lead to uneven cooling and food spoilage.
- Keep raw meats and eggs stored below your ready-to-eat foods to prevent cross-contamination.

The Great American Smokeout happens on Nov. 20
Each November, the Great American Smokeout encourages people to take the first step toward a healthier, tobacco-free life. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society since 1977, this annual event inspires millions of Americans to quit smoking for at least 24 hours — with the goal of quitting for good.
- While cigarette smoking continues to decline, vaping rates, especially among teens, are rising — 14% of county residents reported using some form of tobacco.
- The Weld County Tobacco Education and Prevention Program works to prevent tobacco use among youth and connect residents to resources that help them quit.
