May is Building Safety Month

Weld County recognizes the vital role that building codes, inspections, and safety professionals have in the community. Throughout the month, we'll share how our building team works every day to support safe growth across the county.

It’s Blood Pressure Education Month

May is High Blood Pressure Education Month, a timely reminder to get your blood pressure checked and understand what it means for your health. According to the 2025 Weld County Community Health Survey, 32% of residents reported having high blood pressure, up from 29% just three years earlier. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, but it is a leading risk factor for heart disease. Find resources from the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment.

May is American Heart Month

Colorado Air Quality Awareness Week is May 5 through 9, and here in Weld County it is a great time for residents to explore the tools and information available to help them stay informed. The Weld County Air Quality Program conducts air monitoring, policy analysis, and regulatory enforcement to support meaningful improvements in outdoor air quality for our residents. Find blogs on local air quality issues, information about available incentive programs, and details on upcoming public meetings

Older Americans Month

Weld County is home to the fastest growing population of older adults in the state, and Older Americans Month is just one of the ways that we recognize the countless contributions of individuals who have been here for decades or are choosing to call Weld County home later in life. The Weld County Area Agency on Aging offers wellness, nutrition, and volunteer programs to help older adults thrive in their homes and communities. Check out resources and sign up for the quarterly email newsletter.

It’s Foster Care Month

May is Foster Care Month, a time to recognize the foster families that open their hearts and homes to youth needing a safe place to land. It is also a time to recognize the child welfare professionals and community partnerships that make up the support team for foster youth and families. Those interested in learning more about the certification process are invited to join an orientation on May 6 at our Department of Human Services, Building A. Learn more about orientations. We’ll also be highlighting foster care on our social media channels all month long, answering frequently asked questions and spotlighting some of our Weld County foster parents.

Honor nurses during National Nurses Week

From May 6 to 12 each year, National Nurses Week recognizes nurses for their service, dedication, and commitment to caring for others and improving patient health. Nurses are essential members of Weld County’s health care workforce, providing care at every stage of life and often supporting patients during their most personal and vulnerable moments. Nurses Week is an opportunity to highlight the power of nurses and celebrate the compassion, skill, and sacrifice they bring to their work every day. National Public Works Week is May 17 to 23

Every year, the Weld County Public Works completes many projects to enhance the county’s transportation infrastructure, which includes more than 2,800 miles of county roads, as well as 429 bridges and 18,000 culverts. But there’s collaboration across many divisions to make this happen. During National Public Works Week May 17 through 23, watch our social media platforms as we highlight this collaboration by looking back at some important past projects.

Office closure May 25

Weld County Government offices will be closed on May 25 for Memorial Day.

Latest phase of work on Weld County Road 77 underway

Since 2023, the Weld County Department of Public Works has worked to rebuild Weld County Road 77 north of Briggsdale. So far, our public works department has rebuilt 12 miles of the road from starting at Highway 14 moving north. This segment of work, which started April 13, will focus on a four-mile section from Weld County Road 114 to Weld County Road 122. A temporary closure of the road within that stretch is in place through Sept. 30, but the road will reopen to accommodate traffic heading to the Pawnee School District’s graduation May 18 and as well as the Earl Anderson Memorial Rodeo over Father’s Day weekend. To learn more about the project and for specific reopening dates, read our news release.

Bridge improvement underway

Just as county roads are an important part of our infrastructure, so too are our bridges. Currently, work is underway to improve the structure of Bridge 25.5/40A, located between Milliken and Gilcrest. Weld County Road 25.5 between Weld County Road 40 and 42 is temporarily closed through May 22 while this project is completed. View project detours on Weld County’s Road Advisory Map

High Plains Boulevard project

Progress continues on High Plains Boulevard — a collaborative project with the Town of Mead to extend Weld County Road 9.5 from Weld County Road 32 to Weld County Road 36. Work is currently underway to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Weld County Road 32 and Weld County Road 9.5 (High Plains Boulevard). Get more information about the project and sign up to receive monthly updates.

Weld County Road 66 and 54 project updates

Two important projects are on the horizon. Starting this fall, work will begin to improve Weld County Road 66 between U.S. 85 and Weld County Road 47.

Following construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Weld County Road 54 and Weld County Road 13, which is anticipated to be complete this fall, a project will begin in 2027 to improve Weld County Road 54 between Weld County Road 13/Larimer County Road 1 and Colorado Highway 257.

Project webpages and email newsletters have been created to keep residents informed of project progress. Learn more about each project and sign up to receive the newsletters by visiting www.weld.gov/Go/WCR66 and www.weld.gov/Go/WCR54.
