Weld County Road (WCR) 66 is a local arterial critical to local agricultural operations. Originally developed in conjunction with regional railroad lines, WCR 66 connects growing communities in Weld County and provides access to major north-south routes like U.S. 85 for travel between Cheyenne and Denver.

Recent improvements to WCR 66 have focused on safety and capacity enhancements to handle the county's increasing traffic. The Colorado Department of Transportation recently improved the U.S. 85 and WCR 66 intersection by removing the median to create left-hand acceleration lanes in both directions of U.S. 85 for safer merging. Other improvements along WCR 66 have involved installing new traffic signals and signage, adding left turn lanes, and asphalt resurfacing projects.

Weld County initially planned to improve WCR 66 between U.S. 85 and WCR 47 in phases, but the county has the money now to build the full width improvements to address safety and regional growth. The full width roadway improvements will include two, 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a continuous 16-foot left turn lane in the median, and 10-foot shoulders on both sides of the road.
