Safety Action Plan

Two lane road

Weld County has always been committed to providing a safe and efficient transportation system. The many projects the county's Department of Public Works completes every year is reflective of data collection, which shows a need for improvements, whether that's filling potholes, paving, widening an intersection or correcting sight-distance issues, to name a few.

The Weld County Safety Action Plan is being developed following Weld County's acceptance of a $400,000 Safe Streets for and Roads for All (SS4A) grant in 2023. Weld County’s effort to reduce fatalities and injuries across its transportation system through a Safety Action Plan will be largely driven by feedback from our residents.

The Safety Action Plan is continuing this data collection approach, in the form of feedback from community members and stakeholders. This feedback is critical in helping determine needed improvements throughout the county's transportation system.

On our dedicated webpage, WeldSafeStreets.com, you can:

  • Help identify problem areas throughout the county as well as what changes you’d like to see.
  • Learn more about what a Safety Action Plan is and how it’s a useful tool in helping the county continue its goal of providing a safe and efficient transportation system through the implementation of eight strategic priorities.

This plan, led by Weld County, includes the unincorporated area of the county and several municipalities (Dacono, Eaton, Evans, Firestone, Fort Lupton, Frederick, Gilcrest, Hudson, Keenesburg, LaSalle, Mead, Milliken, Pierce, Platteville, and Severance) that do not already have their own Safety Action Plan.

Who: Feedback is desired from all Weld County residents with an emphasis on those living in unincorporated Weld County, Dacono, Eaton, Evans, Firestone, Fort Lupton, Frederick, Gilcrest, Hudson, Keenesburg, LaSalle, Mead, Milliken, Pierce, Platteville, and Severance.

What: The Weld County Department of Public Works, Weld County Board of Commissioners, and Weld County Public Information Office are all working together with WSP Consultants on this project.

Where: Public engagement has started via the project website. Open houses and pop-up events are currently being coordinated.

When: Public engagement is being gathered from March to August 2025.

Why: In an effort to reduce fatalities and injuries across transportation systems throughout Weld County. By hearing directly from residents who utilize these transportation systems and understand where problem areas are most frequent the county can develop a plan that is most impactful for the areas included.

This plan focuses on roads in unincorporated Weld County that are maintained by the county. It should be noted that interstates, highways and streets within Ault, Berthoud, Brighton, Garden City, Grover, Johnstown, Lochbuie, New Raymer, Northglenn, and Windsor are not part of the Weld County Safety Action Plan, although feedback is welcome throughout all of Weld County. Additionally, Erie, Greeley, Kersey, Longmont, Nunn, and Timnath are completing, or have completed, their own Safety Action Plans.
