  The Weld County Council is currently seeking applicants to fill a council vacancy for District 2 position due to the resignation of Councilwoman Nancy Teksten.  Interested applicants for this volunteer position should submit a letter to the council stating their interest in the position and include any relevant qualifications.  Applicants should also include a current resume with their submission.  Letters should be received at the County Council office no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 10, 2026.  To be eligible for this position an applicant must have resided in Weld County for a consecutive period of not less than one year and be an eligible elector.  The applicant must also be at least twenty-one (21) years of age before assuming office and cannot be a county employee.  Applicants for District 2 are required to reside in District 2 of Weld County.

Interested persons should submit their letter and resume to the Weld County Council by mail, P.O. Box 758, Greeley, CO  80632; hand deliver it to the Council, c/o Weld County Human Resources Office located at the County Administration Building, 1150 O Street, Greeley, Colorado; or via email at countycouncil@weld.gov. The council will schedule in-person applicant interviews for August 17, 2026, at the Weld County Administration Building in Greeley.

The incoming Council member will be appointed to serve beginning September 21, 2026, through the end of Councilwoman Teksten’s elected term, December 31, 2026. 

The Weld County Council consists of five nonpartisan elected members, one representing each district and two at-large members.  The council, created with the adoption of the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is a distinctive organization offering citizens of Weld County the opportunity to participate in county government.

In addition to reviewing all aspects of county government, the council has five primary functions described in the Weld County Home Rule Charter:  1) to set salaries of elected officials; 2) to fill vacancies on the Board of County Commissioners; 3) to suspend public officials charged with a crime; 4) to review conflicts of interest within county government; and 5) to consider requests from the Board of County Commissioners to grant an increased mill levy.
