November 15-21 is National Apprenticeship Week in Weld County

To show support for apprenticeships in preparing a highly-skilled, diverse workforce to meet the talent needs of employers, the Board of County Commissioners has proclaimed the week of November 15- 21, 2021 as National Apprenticeship Week in Weld County.

“Now more than ever, we must address the needs of our employers and continue to have a thriving local economy,” explained Perry Buck, Commissioner Coordinator for the Department of Human Services. “We recognize employers face unique challenges, and it’s our goal to support employers collectively — reducing their burden to the best of our abilities.”

Apprenticeships provide demand-driven education, allowing apprentices to earn while they learn — helping close the gap between skills employers seek and the skills individuals need. Employers can develop and prepare for their future workforce, while individuals can obtain paid work experience, classroom instruction and a nationally recognized credential.

Weld County currently houses 12 registered apprenticeship programs. Careers such as linemen, patrol officers and manufacturing technicians are included. These apprenticeships have employed 149 people in the last year.

“Employment Services of Weld County is committed to advancing registered apprenticeships by collaborating with businesses and educators to develop specific training instruction and on-the-job training opportunities,” said Tami Grant, Deputy Director of the Weld County Department of Human Services.

Employment Services of Weld County (ESWC) also empowers job seekers to participate in employment and training programs to develop a career path toward a bright future. Most apprentices continue their employment after completing an apprenticeship, which in turn fosters loyalty. Apprenticeship programs also help foster a diverse and inclusive culture and provide individuals with equal opportunity to receive training when they lack the necessary resources otherwise.

National Apprenticeship Week is a nationwide celebration that offers leaders in business, labor, education, and other critical partners a chance to demonstrate their support for apprenticeship. National Apprenticeship Week also gives apprenticeship sponsors the opportunity to showcase their programs, facilities and apprentices in their community.
