Fair Royalty Court with BOCC

As the 104th Weld County Fair, which runs from July 23 through August 1, approaches, the Weld County Board of Commissioners were recently presented with the fair book — continuing a time-honored tradition.

“Agriculture is the fabric of our lives and of our communities here in Weld County,” said Weld County Chair Scott James. “Thank you for carrying on this tradition and being the face of agriculture for our county.”

The royalty court is charged with representing the Weld County Fair at events throughout the county and around the state. Such duties include participation in parades, hosting the Royalty for a Day Program, held July 24, to encourage youth in Weld County to one day become fair royalty, and handing out ribbons to competitors at multiple activities throughout the week of fair.

This year, Abby Perez of Keenesburg serves queen. Perez is currently serving as an officer on the Colorado FFA Executive Committee. This year, Perez will be showing horses, pigs and goats at the fair.

Sheridan McBee of Mead is the Runner Up and a member of the Tailtwisters 4-H Club where she serves as the vice president. She is also the reporter for the Saint Vrain Valley FFA chapter and plans to show horses, dogs and market lambs at this year’s fair along with competing in archery.

This year’s fair has two Attendants serving on the court — Avery Loveland and Caitie Holcomb. Loveland of Loveland is active in the Range Runners 4-H Club. She will be showing market goats, market turkeys and chickens as well as exhibiting in canning. Holcomb of Gilcrest currently serves as the Range Runners 4-H Club president and will be showing market cattle and breeding sheep at the 104th Weld County Fair.
