Young Adult Job Fair offers youth a step into the workforce
Published on February 07, 2023
Employment Services of Weld County (ESWC) and the City of Greeley are hosting a Young Adult Job Fair from 5 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the Island Grove Event Center.
This annual event, free to those ages 14-24, draws in more than 200 attendees and around 40 businesses. Although most companies require a minimum age of 16, some employers can hire the younger range of 14 to 18, with certain working hour limitations.
“Young people get a true picture of the competitive job market and the impact that little details — having a strong résumé and dressing professionally — can make,” said Leslie Galindo, who serves as a Youth Employment and Training Navigator for Weld County’s Department of Human Services. “The Young Adult Job Fair may be the start of a career for many! Seeing attendees’ interest increase as they meet with different employers is always inspiring. Most will end up being interviewed that day or called in later for follow-up interviews.”
For the best experience, Galindo advises those attending bring several copies of their resumé. If they don’t have a résumé, team members will be there to help build effective résumés. High Plains Library District will bring in computers and virtual reality devices for attendees. Leanne’s Closet will provide business attire to those who need it, and attendees will also be able to get a professional headshot, if they choose.
The City of Greeley’s Summer Teen Employment Program (S.T.E.P) for youth ages 14-15, a program aimed at giving youth a chance to get real-world experience, will also be in attendance with registration information and program information.
A variety of employers will also be present representing industries such as construction, landscaping, health care, government, law enforcement, hospitality, entertainment, and information technology. Employers will also be recruiting for part-time and seasonal positions.
If you are an employer interested in being a part of this event, spots are still available. ESWC is looking for employers with diverse opportunities, whether part-time or full-time. If you are interested in participating, contact Efrain Cano, Business Services Representative, at ecano@weldgov.com.
In addition to supporting the youth job fair, ESWC also offers weekly workshops for résumé writing, interview tips, how to start your job search and more. For a list of workshops provided and times, visit https://www.weldgov.com/Government/Departments/Human-Services/Employment-Services/Workshops.
