In recognition of the beneficial impact apprenticeship programs have on our local employers and job seekers, the Weld County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed Nov. 17 to 23 Apprenticeship Week.
“Apprenticeships are a cornerstone of workforce development in Weld County, equipping individuals with the skills they need for fulfilling careers while meeting the needs of local businesses. We are proud to reaffirm our commitment to fostering innovation, diversity and opportunity within our workforce system,” said Tami Grant, Deputy Director of the Weld County Department of Human Services (DHS).
In collaboration with 14 businesses, Employment Services of Weld County (ESWC) assists community-based partners in providing training and mentorship opportunities to the next generation of skilled workers. Registered apprenticeship programs for careers in building and construction trades; life, physical, and social sciences; personal care and service; and protective services ensure traditional as well as new and emerging pathways for workforce development.
“These programs provide hands-on experiences, essential skill development, and valuable job placement opportunities, paving a clear path for success for both youth and adults alike,” Grant said.
Scott James, Commissioner Coordinator for DHS, commended the ESWC team and the Workforce Development Board, which has received the High Performing Board distinction from the Colorado Workforce Development Council for the seventh year in a row — the only board in the state to receive this recognition since its inception.
“The apprenticeship program is so important for our young people. College is a path for some of them, but for others, it’s not. We need those people right now who can be trained through apprenticeship programs to keep this great county and this great nation moving forward,” said Commissioner James.
