Commissioners extend public comment and hearings for redistricting

The American, Colorado, and Weld County flags billow in the wind.

Weld County Commissioners, sitting as the Redistricting Advisory Commission, concluded their third scheduled public hearing on redistricting by announcing an extension of the public hearing and comment period.

Redistricting is the process of reviewing county commissioner district boundaries to ensure they comply with state law and the Weld County Home Rule Charter. Under Colorado Revised Statutes (30-10-306 through 30-10306.4), boundaries for county commissioner districts must be redrawn based on data from the most recent United States Census.

The Redistricting Commission added two additional public hearings to allow the public the opportunity to review two new maps that were submitted for consideration:

Public comment can be made on the maps either in person, during a virtual meeting or via our online comment form through 3 p.m. Aug. 1: Public Comment Form.

A final redistricting map will be approved at the county commissioners’ meeting 9 a.m. Aug. 6.
