Commissioners proclaim November as National Diabetes Month

In recognition of National Diabetes Month, the Weld County Board of Commissioners proclaimed November as National Diabetes Month in Weld County, reaffirming their commitment to prevention, education, and community health through the Heart of Weld Diabetes Prevention Program.
With nearly one in nine Weld County residents diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and an estimated 38% living with prediabetes, diabetes prevention remains a public health priority. The Heart of Weld, part of the CDC-led National Diabetes Prevention Program, empowers at-risk residents to take control of their health through small, sustainable lifestyle changes.
“Our job as county leaders is to keep the ride fun, running smoothly, and safely,” said Community Health Manager, Kelly Martinez. “Prevention matters not just for personal health, but for the vitality of our community — fewer hospital visits, a healthier workforce and a better quality of life. A small push today can make a big difference tomorrow.”
Commissioner Scott James emphasized the urgency of addressing prediabetes in Weld County. “Prediabetes is reaching epidemic levels nationwide, and that includes right here at home,” said James. “Education programs, like the ones you do, certainly help push back that tide.”
National Diabetes Month highlights the importance of diabetes prevention and serves as a call to action for residents to learn their risk for diabetes, support loved ones in making healthy changes and participate in local programs that build a healthier Weld County for all.
