County offering free large item disposal landfill vouchers

Do you have old mattresses, couches, entertainment centers or other large items you want to dispose of? Good news — the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment (WCDPHE) is once again offering landfill vouchers for large item disposal.

A limited number of vouchers for Weld County residents will be available for disposal of one truckload (level with bed rails) or one trailer weighing up to one ton of items free of charge at the Front Range Landfill (1830 Weld County Road 5, Erie) or the North Weld Landfill (40000 Weld County Road 25, Ault), Sept. 2 through Nov. 1, 2025.

Residents will be responsible for any charges exceeding the voucher limits, which must be paid at the time of disposal. Vouchers are limited to one per Weld County address and are valid for either the North Weld Landfill or the Front Range Landfill locations.

The county began providing large-item disposal vouchers to residents last fall and, to date, approximately 550 tons of waste have been properly disposed of through the program.

“The goal is to prevent these large items from being dumped on the side of our roads,” said WCDPHE Director Jason Chessher. “Items dumped on the roadside are not only hazardous to the traveling public, but Weld County residents end up paying for the clean-up. If these vouchers can be used to get more of these items to the appropriate place, then that is good for everyone.”

The funds used to cover the cost of the vouchers come from a 10% surcharge added to disposal fees at solid waste disposal sites and transfer stations. The county uses these funds to cover the cost of roadside cleanup and the large-item voucher program.

To participate, residents can register for a voucher on the Weld County Household Hazardous Waste webpage at www.weld.gov/go/hhw. Once registered, vouchers will be mailed to the address indicated on the form. For details about acceptable items, drop-off hours and other landfill questions, please visit:
