August is National Immunization Awareness Month, and the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment (WCDPHE) wants to remind parents and guardians to assess if their children are up to date on required immunizations as they prepare for the new school year.
Vaccinations are important to preventing diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, and whooping cough. These vaccines not only protect individual children but also contribute to the overall health of the community by reducing the spread of preventable illnesses in schools and other public spaces.
“The start of the school year is the right time to make sure children are vaccinated,” said Public Health Services Director Shaun May. “By staying up to date on immunizations, parents are helping protect their children, their classmates, and the broader community.”
WCDPHE offers all vaccines required for school entry for children whose families have not filed for an exemption. To help accommodate families in southeast Weld, the public health clinic in Fort Lupton is offering extended hours for vaccinations throughout August. The clinic’s hours are as follows:
