Roundabout opens ahead of schedule

An effort to bring safety and efficiency to an intersection that serves approximately 7,340 vehicles daily wrapped up more than two weeks ahead of schedule. Thursday afternoon, the roundabout at Weld County Road (WCR) 6 and WCR 13 opened, 26 days ahead of its original scheduled completion date of Aug. 19, 2025.
In a project managed by the Weld County Department of Public Works and constructed by WW Clyde, work at the intersection south of Dacono and east of Erie began Jan. 9. Some of the more noticeable elements of construction included removing existing asphalt at the intersection, soil stabilization and completing curb and gutter work. The roundabout’s driving surface is made of concrete, a feature common in county roundabouts to help the driving surface reach a 30-year lifecycle before major repairs are needed. Similar to previously built county roundabouts, this one is built to “rural” specifications, meaning its large size can easily accommodate regular traffic as well as large trucks and agricultural equipment.
The roundabout’s early completion is due to what Weld County Public Works Director Curtis Hall said was a combination of effective construction and project management.
“Stellar work by WW Clyde and the ability of our project management team to work with the contractor and other companies helped to complete this roundabout more quickly than anticipated. I’m proud of our team, and we’re excited this intersection is back open well ahead of schedule.”
“Our transportation system is a big priority, and whenever we can complete projects ahead of schedule, it’s a benefit to our residents,” said Perry Buck, Weld County Commissioner Chair. “We look forward to seeing the safety and efficiency brought by this roundabout.”
While the roundabout is open, drivers are asked to pay greater attention when approaching and in the roundabout. Workers will be present completing final tasks along the roadway for about the next week. The speed limit in the roundabout is 20 miles per hour, and signs will be placed ahead of it letting people know of the changing traffic pattern.
The roundabout at WCR 6 and WCR 13 follows other county-built ones opened in recent years: WCR 54 and WCR 17 (2020), 35th Avenue and O Street (2022) and WCR 74 and WCR 33 (2024).
