Weld County government mourns the passing of former Weld County Commissioner Constance “Connie” Harbert.
Harbert was appointed as a county commissioner in October 1989, when Commissioner Jackie Johnson resigned from office in September of that year. Harbert served the remainder of Johnson’s term before winning the seat in 1991, which she held until she was term limited in 1998.
As commissioner, Harbert participated in Colorado Counties, Inc. (CCI) as a member of the Social Services Committee and the General Government Committee. She contributed to state budget committee discussions regarding social services and welfare reform. She also served as president of Front Range Counties.
In addition to her work with CCI, Harbert also participated as a member of the Colorado Department of Transportation Passenger Rail Study, North Front Range Transportation District and the Colorado Rural Health Coalition.
Born in Lincoln, NE, Harbert graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1957. She married Roger Harbert in 1957, and they moved to Colorado in 1961. Together, they had five children.
Harbert’s professionalism and dedication to the residents of Weld County was appreciated — Weld County is a better place because of her leadership.
