2026 commissioner roles determined

New leadership appointments were announced during Monday’s board of county commissioners meeting. As required by the Weld County Home Rule Charter, the board elects a chair and chair pro tem at its first meeting each year. For 2026, the board selected Commissioner Scott James to serve as chair and Commissioner Jason Maxey to serve as chair pro tem. In addition, the board assigned commissioner coordinator roles, in which they oversee county departments and strengthen communication between the board and county department operations.
2026 coordinator roles
Commissioner Scott James: the Department of Finance and Administration, Accounting and Purchasing, Clerk to the Board, the County Attorney, Human Resources, the Treasurer and Public Trustee’s Office and the Public Information Office.
Commissioner Jason Maxey: the Department of Public Health and Environment, Coroner’s Office, Information Technology, Justice Services, the Office of Emergency Management and Public Safety Communications.
Commissioner Lynette Peppler: the Department of Planning Services, Oil and Gas Energy Department and the Extension Office.
Commissioner Kevin Ross: the Department of Public Works, Facilities Department and Fleet Services.
Commissioner Perry Buck: the Department of Human Services and the Veterans Service Office.

Commissioner Scott James: Bright Futures Advisory Board; North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization; Upstate Colorado Economic Development Board.
Commissioner Jason Maxey: Bright Futures Advisory Board; the Federal Mineral Lease Act Board; Greeley-Weld County Airport Authority; Pre-Trial Services Advisory Board; Regional Communications Advisory Board.
