Board appoints Jason Marini as Weld County Assessor

The Weld County Board of Commissioners voted Monday to appoint Jason Marini as Weld County Assessor following the resignation of Brenda Dones.

Under Section 3-15(2) of the Weld County Home Rule Charter, vacancies in elected county offices are filled by appointment of the Board of County Commissioners. Marini took the Oath of Office on July 6 and will serve through the remainder of the current term, which ends Jan. 2, 2027.

Before approving the appointment, commissioners thanked Dones for her service to the residents of Weld County. Dones served as the county's elected assessor since Jan. 1, 2019.

Marini has served as Weld County Chief Deputy Assessor since 2018. He earned a bachelor's degree from Wabash College and a master's degree from Colorado State University. He is a Certified General Appraiser with over 25 years of real property appraisal experience. As Chief Deputy Assessor, he has helped oversee property valuations and the daily operations of the Assessor's Office.

"We have been blessed with such amazing assessors in this county," said Board Chair Scott James. "I know you've worked under the best, and I know you will be the best. It's an honor to take a vote on this resolution. Congratulations, Assessor Marini."

Marini thanked the board for its confidence and said he looks forward to continuing the office's commitment to serving residents.

"I want to thank the commissioners for the opportunity and confidence you have placed in me," Marini said. "I look forward to working with you as we continue to serve the great people of Weld County. Public service is a responsibility I take seriously, and my office will continue to provide the high level of service the people of Weld County deserve."

The Weld County Assessor constitutional duty is to discover, list, classify and value all property in the county for property tax purposes.
