County departments receive national recognition for projects

Weld County has earned six 2026 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards.

Since 1970, NACo has honored strong county programs and services. Counties can apply for awards in 18 categories that cover many different types of work.

  • The Communications and Public Information Department won NACo’s Best in Category award in Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation for the Pops the Triceratops Fossil Restoration Project. The project restored and protected the triceratops fossil and gave residents a chance to learn about it.
  • The Communications and Public Information Department and the Treasurer and Public Trustee’s Office received an Achievement Award in Civic Education and Public Information for the 2025 Property Tax Flyer. The flyer gave residents clear and simple information about property taxes.

  • The Department of Information and Technology won an Achievement Award in Information Technology for its work to modernize and improve internal processes. The project made work more efficient. It also improved services for county departments and residents.

  • The Department of Planning Services earned an Achievement Award in Planning for One Bite at the Apple: Creating a Transparent and Predictable Land Use Review Process. The project made the land use review process clearer and more consistent. This helped applicants and residents understand timelines and expectations.

  • The Department of Public Health and Environment won two awards in the Health category. One was for the Weld County Community Health Assessment Incentive Program, which encourages community members to take part in health assessments and helps identify key health needs. The second was for the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, which expanded testing and response efforts through new funding and partnerships.
