Weld County has earned the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Triple Crown Award for the third year in a row. Only 441 governments nationwide received this award for 2025.
The Triple Crown Award goes to governments that earn all three of GFOA’s top honors in one year:
“This achievement would not be possible without the Finance Department,” said Weld County Chair Scott James. “Their hard work ensures our financial documents meet national standards and show responsible use of taxpayer dollars.”
The award also reflects strong teamwork across departments. The Department of Communications and Public Information works with Finance to create the PAFR. The PAFR helps residents understand how the county manages money. Financial information is shown in a clear, visual way.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest award in government financial reporting. The ACFR explains the county’s financial results correctly and clearly.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award recognizes budget documents that follow GFOA’s best practices.
To earn these awards, the accounting team must complete the ACFR, budget, and PAFR on time. They must also meet all standards from the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). GASB outlines what information must be included and how reports should look. Because the standards can change each year, the accounting team works carefully to ensure each document meets requirements.
