Interactive map debuts highlighting county transportation projects

People have a new way to stay informed about current or future county transportation projects. A new, interactive Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) map is now live at https://maps.weld.gov/cip/.
The CIP is a multi-year planning tool used by Weld County. It helps officials plan, schedule, and fund major infrastructure work.
The new map was designed by the Weld County Department of Information Technology (IT) and the Weld County Department of Public Works. It provides a close-up look at current and future projects involving intersections, county roads, bridges, or enhancements to drainage. People can use the map to pinpoint the location of projects, read a short summary, and see the estimated start and completion year as well as design renderings.
The Weld County Board of Commissioners and public works evaluate the CIP every year. Kevin Ross, Weld County Commissioner and Coordinator of Public Works, believes the map will be useful in giving the public greater insight.
“The CIP helps us prioritize projects and identify what’s needed to enhance safety and efficiency for the traveling public,” Ross said. “With this map, the public can also stay up to date on what we’re working on or considering.”
More than 378,000 people call Weld County home. Weld County Commissioner Jason Maxey said the map will be useful as the board continues to evaluate what’s needed to strengthen Weld County’s transportation infrastructure in a growing county.
“We’re proud of our IT and public works departments for working together to create this new tool,” said Maxey, who also serves as Commissioner Coordinator of IT. “Our continued growth as a county will place more demand on our transportation infrastructure, and this will be a great help in keeping residents informed.”
Projects identified in the CIP are split into three different segments:
- Current — one to five years out; either in the construction or design phase.
- Mid-range planning — six to 11 years out.
- Future growth needs — 11 to 20 years out.
The map will be updated every year after public works presents the CIP to the commissioners for consideration and feedback.
