Road rebuild northwest of Hudson to bring temporary closure

A three-mile stretch of Weld County Road (WCR) 41 used by more than 1,800 vehicles daily will be rebuilt starting June 1. Monday, the Weld County Board of Commissioners approved a temporary closure of WCR 41 between Colorado Highway 52 and WCR 22 through Monday, Oct. 26. Detours can be viewed on the Weld County Road Advisory Map.

The rebuild of WCR 41 will focus primarily on strengthening the road’s structure with cement-treated base (CTB). CTB is a beneficial element in road building that can make roads more resistant to the negative effects of moisture, the heavy weight of traffic, and general wear and tear.

“Every year, we see improvements to the county’s infrastructure through various projects — think Weld County Road 77 north of Briggsdale or the improvements to Two Rivers Parkway in 2023,” said Scott James, Weld County Commissioner Chair. “We believe this work on county road 41 will have a similar result and that it will help the road continue to meet demand, particularly as Weld County’s population continues to rise.”

Beyond rebuilding the road’s structure, 13 culverts will be repaired or replaced, and road shoulders will be widened from 24 to 26 feet. Work will be completed by the pavement management division of the Weld County Department of Public Works, and the project, budgeted at just over $1.8 million, is moving forward with state support. In April of this year, the county received a $150,000 Colorado Department of Local Affairs grant to go toward construction.

“Every road project has a cost, and we’re pleased to have a grant to help us offset some of that,” said Kevin Ross, Weld County Commissioner Coordinator of Public Works. “This is a needed project, which we believe will have safety and efficiency benefits for years to come.”

The work on WCR 41 follows a nearby project on WCR 37, completed in 2025, that saw two miles of road between WCR 8 and Colorado Highway 52 receive new pavement.
