September is National Cholesterol Education Month. The Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment (WCDPHE) is encouraging residents to know their cholesterol numbers and take steps to protect their heart health.
According to the 2025 Weld Community Health Survey, 30.8% of Weld County adults reported being diagnosed with high cholesterol. About 64.4% said they had their cholesterol checked.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says healthy eating, regular physical activity and avoiding tobacco can help prevent or manage high cholesterol. Working with a health care provider can also help people understand and manage their risk.
“High cholesterol often goes unnoticed, which makes prevention and education essential,” said WDPHE Chronic Disease Prevention Manager Kelly Martinez, “We are committed to helping residents build healthy habits through accessible, evidence‑based programs that support long-term cardiovascular health.”
WCDPHE’s Community Health Division offers several programs to help residents build healthy habits. These programs focus on nutrition, physical activity and other lifestyle choices that can help cholesterol levels and improve heart health.
