Weld County recognizes 25th anniversary of September 11 attacks

This Friday marks the 25th Anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks — a day that changed our nation, and a day that, as a country, we promised we would never forget.
To commemorate this anniversary, the Weld County Board of Commissioners will light the historic Weld County Courthouse each evening from September 10 through September 13 in recognition of the nearly 3,000 lives that were lost that day.
On the historic courthouse, visitors will notice lighting that reflects the following: blue in support of law enforcement officers; red in support of firefighters and fire services; white in support of emergency medical services; gold in support of 911 dispatchers; and three areas of darkness in the middle in honor of those lost in the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
During their Wednesday, Sept. 9, 9 a.m. board meeting, commissioners will hold a moment of silence for the victims of 9/11.
On Friday, Sept. 11, county staff — led by the Facilities, Public Works and Fleet departments — will hold a brief memorial ceremony at their building’s flagpole at 1111 H St. in Greeley, and the county will share several social media posts highlighting thoughts and remembrances of that day.
Weld County encourages residents to pause on Sept. 11 to remember the lives lost and to recognize all those who served their communities and country following the attacks.
