CodeRED

Update 11/24/25: On Friday evening, Weld County’s Regional Communications Center (WCRCC) received an email from OnSolve CodeRED explaining their company was the victim of a cyberattack, which is why they took the service offline November 10, 2025.

OnSolve CodeRED is the product many government agencies, including Weld County, use to send targeted emergency alerts to their communities.

On November 14, 2025, Weld County updated residents about that service being offline as well as shared information that Weld County has an agreement with the Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority (LETA) to send alerts to Weld County residents while the CodeRED system is offline and that the CodeRED outage does not impact the county’s 9-1-1 emergency system.

Only in the email received late Friday does OnSolve CodeRED state: “It appears that the impacted dataset may contain contact information of OnSolve CodeRED users: name, address, email address, phone numbers, and/or associated passwords used to create user profiles for alerts. If the same password is used by users for any other personal or business accounts, those passwords should be changed immediately.”

Weld County is disappointed in the lack of communication and information from OnSolveCodeRED on this incident. The trust that has been damaged by the company’s lack of response to the county, and thereby its residents, is one Weld County Government is taking very seriously.

The WCRCC is working with the county attorney’s office to see what options are available with regard to the county’s current contract with OnSolve CodeRED.

In the meantime, Weld County will continue to work with LETA for any emergency notifications that need to be released.

Update 11/14/25, 4:15 p.m.: On Nov. 11, the Weld County Public Safety Communications Department was alerted by CodeRED, the provider Weld County contracts with for emergency alerts, that they had pulled their system offline the day before (11/10/25) due to concerns from their information technology department. There has been no further update from CodeRED, nor has the Weld County representative for CodeRED returned any of the county’s calls/emails.

While we await more details about this situation, Weld County wants to assure the public of two important items:

1. Weld County has had a long-standing agreement with LETA (Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority) to provide a back-up for Weld County should an emergency alert need to be sent to residents. Weld County and Larimer County emergency management personnel and public safety communications personnel (dispatch) have been in contact with each other regarding the current CodeRED situation and Larimer County stands ready to assist Weld County if needed.

2. The CodeRED outage does NOT impact the public’s ability to call 9-1-1 for emergency assistance. The CodeRED system is separate from what the county uses for handling emergency calls.

What we know currently is that new sign-ups to CodeRED cannot be done while their system is offline; alerts cannot be sent through their system while its offline; CodeRED personnel have not responded to the county with additional information; and this is impacting several counties that have contracted with CodeRED for this service.
We will share more information as we receive it.

11/14/25: This week, the CodeRed notification system was taken offline by the vendor, the root cause has yet to be identified.  Please be assured that this is a standalone system and is not connected to any Weld County systems. There is no impact on county operations or data.

As a precaution, new signups for CodeRed have been temporarily suspended. Additionally, if you use the CodeRed mobile app for location-based alerts, those alerts and subscribed alerts are currently unavailable. We have other alerting methods that will be used during emergencies.

We appreciate your patience and will provide updates as more information becomes available. This particular vendor has nothing to do with services for calling 9-1-1. Those services are operating at full capacity.
