Weld County 2050 Transportation Master Plan

Weld County is currently developing the 2050 Transportation Master Plan (TMP)—a long‑range, countywide planning effort that will guide transportation investments and policies through the year 2050. The plan will help Weld County proactively manage growth, maintain a safe and efficient transportation network, and support the region’s economic vitality and quality of life.

The 2050 TMP will evaluate the county’s transportation needs across all modes, including roadways, freight, transit, bicycle and pedestrian travel, and emerging transportation technologies. Using extensive data analysis, public input, and coordination with local, regional, and state partners, the plan will outline strategies to improve mobility, safety, system reliability, and connectivity throughout Weld County.

Key Components of the 2050 TMP

Updated Functional Classification Map

The TMP will include an updated Functional Classification Map that reflects Weld County’s evolving development patterns, travel demands, and future growth areas. This update will help ensure roadway classifications are aligned with projected land use, traffic volumes, and multimodal needs, providing a clear framework for planning, design standards, and investment decisions.

Priority List of Transportation Projects

As part of the plan, Weld County will develop a prioritized list of transportation projects needed to support the county through 2050. This list will identify short-, medium-, and long-term improvements that address safety, congestion, connectivity, freight mobility, and regional coordination. Each project will be evaluated based on criteria such as community benefit, cost-effectiveness, and readiness for implementation.

Why This Matters

The 2050 TMP will serve as a roadmap to guide Weld County’s transportation decisions over the next 25 years. By planning ahead, the county can ensure its growing communities remain connected, its transportation system remains resilient, and its investments deliver long-term value to residents, businesses, and visitors.
