Area Agency on Aging hosting Falls Prevention Awareness Week events
Published on September 17, 2026
The Weld County Area Agency on Aging’s (AAA) Weld Aging Well program will offer free fall prevention events Monday, Sept. 21, through Friday, Sept. 25, at locations across Weld County. Adults age 60 and older can take part in movement classes, wellness walks, balance screenings, and presentations on home safety, vision, and nutrition.
The events are part of Falls Prevention Awareness Week and highlight the work Weld Aging Well does throughout the year to help older adults reduce their risk of falls and stay active and independent.
Falls are the leading cause of injury among adults age 65 and older, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 14 million older adults, or about one in four, report falling each year. Many falls can be prevented by improving strength and balance, making homes safer, and understanding personal risk factors.
“Supporting older adults in maintaining their independence and safety is essential,” said Commissioner Chair Scott James. “Falls Prevention Awareness Week gives residents practical ways to stay active and reduce their risk of falling. Weld County is proud to offer programs that can make a meaningful difference.”
Weld Aging Well offers fall prevention classes and resources throughout the year, with evidence-backed programs focused on movement, balance, nutrition, and staying safe at home.
“Our goal is to give people practical steps they can use every day,” said AAA Wellness Program Coordinator Gabi Snyder. “This week is more than just one-off classes. It’s a chance for our residents to explore wellness classes, meet our registered dietician, and connect with our community partners. We want adults 60 and older to know support is available through these free programs.”
