Child Welfare Complaint Process

This process explains how to handle complaints about the county department’s staff and their work with children who might be neglected or dependent. It describes the steps to resolve any concerns or issues.

CHAPTER 2 – CHILD WELFARE

ARTICLE I – GENERAL

Sec. 2.1.70. – Grievance Process.

  1. Purpose

    This policy outlines the process for the resolution of grievances filed against the county department concerning the conduct of county department personnel in the performance of their duties relating to children who may be neglected or dependent.

  2. Filing a grievance

All grievances must be submitted in writing and mailed to the Weld County Child Welfare Director at the Weld County Department of Human Service, PO Box A, Greeley, CO 80632.

The grievance shall include the complainant’s full name and mailing address, applicable case/assessment name and number (if known), a short but specific statement of the complainant’s grievance, and the resolution desired by the complainant.

Once a grievance is received, the Child Welfare Director or designee has 35 days from the receipt of the grievance to issue a written response to the complainant. The Child Welfare Director shall attempt to resolve any complaints informally. If the grievance is not resolved to the complainant's satisfaction, the complainant may file a grievance with:

All reports made to the Department are confidential, including the name of the party who reports the alleged abuse or neglect. Colorado Law protects people from liability if they make a report in good faith.
