Weld County Road 66 improvement

Weld County Road (WCR) 66 is one of Weld County and Greeley’s key corridors that serves U.S. 85 and WCR 47, and it will be the future primary access to the Greeley-Weld County Airport. With its strategic importance and high farm-to-market activity, the corridor is expected to experience increased traffic and growing safety concerns, which is why the Weld County Department of Public Works hired Benesch to improve the road.

Project breakdown and timeline

  • This project will involve widening a four-mile section of WCR 66 between U.S. 85 and WCR 47 to a four-lane concrete roadway. A typical roadway section will include two, 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a 16-foot continuous left turn lane in the middle of the roadway, and 10-foot shoulders (8 feet paved and 2 feet gravel). While Weld County initially planned to deliver interim improvements to WCR 66, the county was able to secure funding to build the full width improvements now to improve safety and address regional growth and increasing farm-to-market activities along the corridor.
  • Construction on WCR 66 is expected to begin in fall 2026 and be complete by Dec. 31, 2028.
